HB 5274 An Act Requiring A Civics Course for High School Graduation. 
House of Representatives, Regular Session April 11, 2000

This bill requires that at least one-half of the three credits in social studies necessary to graduate from high school must be in civics and American government. The requirement applies to students who plan to graduate or receive diplomas in 2004 and thereafter.

Starting July 1, 2001, this bill requires students to stay in school until age 18, instead of age 16, unless (1) they graduate from high school or (2) their parents or others having control over them consent to their leaving school at age 16 or 17.
