In the mid-1950s Benjamin Bloom developed a taxonomy that categorized cognitive learning (Intellectual ability and skills) into a six step hierarchical schema referred to as Behavioral or Instructional Objectives. The six established domains provided classroom teachers with a means to effectively plan for the complex intellectual growth of their students.  The practical classroom goal is to develop and execute teaching strategies that will enact behaviors that stimulate students to navigate through all six levels.  Included in the chart are action verbs that teachers utilize to describe learning outcomes for their planned activities.
